Faced with the unexpected danger of hostile creatures on the moon, weapons needed to be developed that would permit small groups to operate on the lunar surface without the need for fixed defenses or dedicated security personnel. With classical projectile weapons hampered by supply issues, and newer energy weapons still requiring frequent maintenance to ensure stability, the engineers a Schlock Ballistics developed an effective hybrid weapon, the S05 Defender pistol.
By replacing conventional propellants with an energy cell based on alien tech, SB created a plasma-launched projectile that could be manufactured locally and was totally inert before being charged from a power source, allowing for safe bulk transport.
Once charged, activating the bullet via the trigger mechanism causes it to form an expanding plasma in the firing chamber, launching it along a magnetic rail.
A similar plasma reaction occurs upon contact with the target, with the second reaction damaging organic material, but also helping reduce momentum to avoid over-penetration of bulkheads or metal materials.
Though not as powerful as bigger energy weapons, the SO5 is a dependable and portable side-arm with enough stopping power to make most hostiles regret their choice of target.
